Spoothie’s story – from waste to healthy snack
No buckwheat by-product for deer, but instead a healthy snack for you!
Here in the village of Virtasalmi, we take good care of each other, including the animals. The local deer have been able to eat our buckwheat waste, lingonberries and apples from Virtasalmen Viljatuote’s mill. Well, they are very happy and healthy, but can we do more for the human population?
We developed a healthy snack from buckwheat by-product that benefits people’s health
The happy deer made us think about whether nutrient-rich buckwheat waste could be turned into a healthy food solution for human consumption and at the same time solve the challenges of a more sustainable means of food production. Something naturally vegan and gluten-free that would make people feel as good as the local deer population.

And so Spoothie was born! A fermented buckwheat snack that soothes the stomach, is rich in nutrients and contains plenty of berries and fruits. No waste – a better world
Buckwheat is one of the most ecological crops and one of our main raw materials at the mill. The milling process creates a by-product that we now use to make Spoothie; a better solution to avoid waste.

Avoiding waste by developing a snack was a solution but it had to be a healthy one. Nutrient-rich fermented Spoothie is suitable for all diets with the right balance of protein, fiber, healthy fat, and sugar.
